Jenni Trent Hughes chats to Cameron and Alex about Paisley - Peking

Oh my GAWD!!!! (as they say in Yankland). I am so so so jealous! Never mind the fact that both of you separately intimated that I would be your driving partner of choice.......Frankly if I were in your shoes I would have chosen each other as well :( But anyway spill the beans pronto!

Whose brainstorm was this?

I think it might have been mine - yeah I'm going to say it was so I don't look like the famous guy's hanger-on. It was mine. Yup for sure. Mine all mine, do I sound paranoid?

Alex's - ALL Alex's. I was asked to write up the project for a newspaper and ended up volunteering to do the drive! I'm a patron of Sanctuary, and I also love driving adventures, so I get the best of both worlds.

Are you sure you can tolerate each other for 3 months?

I think I can tolerate him, whether he can cope with me, but I'm not that bad, and if we do have two buggies and two tents and all that then it's not like we're crammed in a space together 24/7. Mind you he should be good at that, he's done it before. I'm sure we'll have disagreements, but we're both fairly relaxed, so I think we'll get over them. We'll just have to wait and see.

Did you see who I was in that infamous house with? Alex will be a walk in the park! And as for his thinking that we'll have disagreements, I'd have to disagree about that

I don't see any space to pack Scrabble and a sewing kit.

Good point, I'd forgotten about Scrabble, I guess we'll just have to play "Paper, Scissors, Stone" for amusement, or high stakes poker maybe? Sewing kit? I'm a man, what do I want to sew? Maybe stitching an arm back on is what you had in mind?

But yeah, there's not a lot of space really, so it'll be an exercise in minimalist living, and seeing how long we can make a pair of pants last.

Re. pants. I have a great story about that, from an arctic explorer. You only need two pairs of pants. The first you wear for a day. The second you wear for two days. Then you go back to the first pair, as they're a day cleaner than the second pair. Wear them for two days. The next day you wear the second pair, which are a day 'cleaner' than the first pair. If you go on like that, you're always wearing pants that are cleaner than the previous day's unawares.

Oh yes, and I have travel Scrabble ready to go, and Boggle. But that needs paper. I have a great book (another great book I mean) to keep us occupied too. Zobmondo. Look it up on the net.

I am now officially queasy after hearing that pants story. My contribution to you both will be soap powder, a portable clothesline and a mini washing machine which you can plug into the cigarette lighter!

I am too, still at least with two buggies I won't have to be that close to him, just as long as I'm upwind I'll be fine. I was planning on taking a pair for each day personally, along with the socks I got for Christmas with the days of the week on them. Next!!

Where will you sleep?

I don't usually sleep a lot anyway (please don't remind me I said that...). One of the few downsides of having two buggies is that one can't snooze while the other is driving. Well, not if we want to get very far that is. I spotted hammocks in the January sales so I might nab a couple just in case.

Anywhere, everywhere, in tents, hotels, hostels, by the side of the road, that kind of thing. I don't think we'll find a Hilton though, well not in Mongolia anyway, so it'll probably be fairly basic once we get out of Europe. Then again Cameron should be used to that, I mean do they even have electricty in the Orkneys?

Can we all come along?

No, shoo, go away, this is an exercise in male bonding, isn't it? But you can virtually, because there's a blog, and we'll put photos and videos on the website. And when we come back we promise to bore you all to death with a lovely slideshow.

Oh and of course you can buy a mile of our journey.

As Alex says, we want you all to come along virtually by following our progress and sponsoring a mile or twenty. We will have room for enormous memory cards in the cameras and will do our utmost to capture the hardship, pain and blisters that we feel along the way. We want you to feel part of this adventure too.
